Her Second Born in the Wilderness

Hello everyone! πŸ˜€

I hope all is well with all of you! things are going well for me! Transfer Doctrine came last Tuesday and Sister Kurt is now dead and gone home to the fiery California and I have a new companion. πŸ™‚ Sister Pickard! She just arrived from the MTC so I get to train again! Woot πŸ™‚ And this time I actually know what i’m doing so its much less scary and much more fun! πŸ™‚ She is my second daughter and I don’t remember if I said this already but Sister Barasnky is currently training making me a Grandma with a new child… lol Missionary Genealogy.

But this week went well! We had some new investigators and finally had one of them come to church! πŸ˜€ Yay! Its been a while since that’s happened so i’m just so grateful for Roy.

Some fun things we did this week was, we went to the Catholic book store and have a very good conversation with the owner there, and when Jimmy Johns came in to give free samples to the owners instead of taking it himself he offered them to my companion and I. That was a good experience πŸ™‚ I like him.

More on my new companion,

Sister Pickard is from Boise Idaho (About time I had a companion from Idaho!) and she is a music major from Idaho State. She has a vocal range of 5 octaves! (WOW!!) and just barely turned 19 last month. She is very excited about missionary work and we enjoy singing all the time everyday together hahaha πŸ™‚

A miracle this week is that Morra, The non member who was in pageant that I talked to, got baptized this last week! πŸ˜€ I was invited but alas the elders here in Macomb also had a baptism and they needed me to play piano. So I did that instead. But still it was exciting and I enjoyed hearing about it. πŸ˜€ the church is very true guys, I hope you know that.

So this week I was doing a study on Authority, and From my study and from my understanding of other churches, there are only 2 churches that have any sort of claim they have direct authority from Jesus Christ. That being the Catholic Church and the LDS Church. Catholics believe that the priesthood was never lost. And the LDS Church believes that it was restored to Jospeh Smith. All the other Christian churches are break offs from the Catholic church because people felt they weren’t teaching the correct doctrine. And if you look closely at the teachings of Jesus Christ you can see for yourself the doctrine that is very present in our church. The first thing that comes to mind is the organization of the Church with the 12 apostles and the quorum of the 70. I don’t know of any other church that has that. But its exactly how Christ established it. πŸ™‚

It was a good study!

Anyway! Its been a good week! I love you all and you’re always in my prayers! πŸ˜€ Keep studying your scriptures and going to church! πŸ™‚ its the small and little things that bring about miracles in our lives! πŸ™‚

Love Always
Sister Brittany Pope

Transfers this week… o.O

Hello There my favorite people!

This week was crazy… We spent a lot of time in Navuoo with meetings and sister Kurt went to the departing missionaries temple trip. But its been great! Many of you have questions on how I work the Navuoo pageant. So How it works is the Zone Leaders assigned each of us in the Navuoo district 2 days a week to come to help the visitor center missionaries by switching out Anti papers with the official ones and helping members think of referrals for the missionaries. Now I know most of you are members of the Church but I want you to think for a minute of who you can share the gospel with. Start first with your Neighbors, Who around you isn’t a member of the church. Once you identified them you can begin by being a friend. And be a true friend. You’re not in this for a baptism, but for friendship and a stronger community. So I invite all of you no matter your age to get to know your neighbors and do something kind for them. That’s how we get people in the church and back to church, its Love. πŸ™‚

A miracle I saw this week was actually at Pageant. We were walking around and trying to strengthen members and get referrals and I got into a conversation with a lady who was in the pageant. She told me that it was 2 years ago that she was baptized a member of the church, oh it was so exciting for her! And that got us into conversion stories. We both shared ours and in the end we were both crying and she told me, “I want you to meet my daughter” (it turns out her daughter is the only non member in the pageant cast.) I felt so honored and I was grateful for the spirit guiding me and directing me to give me words to say to build and help others. I talked with Mora and she learned from missionaries on and off for almost 3 years. I asked her about baptism and she thought for a moment and said “2014 the answer was no, 2015 it was a maybe, and now 2016 I will probably be baptized. I see how happy it has made my Mom and I want to be that happy too.” She then told me how she dumped all her Word of Wisdom problem down the sink and had a very spiritual experience in the book of Mormon. And I looked at her and I said, “you better invite me to your baptism” and we hugged and then I had to leave. I think that’s the hardest part of helping with people in the visitor’s center or at pageant. These are other people’s Investigators and I don’t get to see them beyond the 1 or 2 days i’m there. I didn’t think it would be as hard as it was.

Also this last sunday some cool things happened. First of the Elder’s Investigator: Dan, decided to dress up like the Elders. πŸ™‚ That was awesome. And then Brother Deveraux gave his homecoming talk. He actually served in the Salt Lake City West mission, where I live. It was interesting because I always wondered what missionaries say about serving there. πŸ™‚ it was good, we know alot of the same people too so its been fun talking with him.

In other new transfers are this week! Sister Kurt will be flying home to California and I’ll have someone new! Stay tuned It should be exciting! πŸ™‚

I love you all I hope you know that! πŸ™‚ Have an amazing week and meet your neighbors! πŸ™‚

All my love,
Sister Brittany Pope

Life in Nauvoo :) Pageant Days

Hello My dear friends and family!

This week was Awesome! We were able to see both the Nauvoo and the British Pageant. We worked there Tuesday and Thursday and we were able to bring Investigators on Wednesday. It was an amazing experience. On Wednesday we walked all over Nauvoo with Ladonna (a Recent convert’s Mom/ Our Investigator) And showed her the cool shops and fun things before walking down to the visitor’s center. We watched “Jospeh Smith Prophet of the Restoration” Oh goodness does that movie pull on your heart strings. Ladonna really enjoyed it and she asked “why were people so cruel?” and we were able to testify, that the closer you get to the truth, the harder Satan works on you. It was a really good prelude to the british pageant. I love being so close to Nauvoo we were able to go to the temple this last week too. πŸ™‚ And some of the actors from the movie were actors in the pageant… so that was exciting too! weird also… because now I know their first names… lol πŸ™‚

We also got a new mission president! President Badger. He’s great! Very Spiritual and Very new. Haha They’ll figure it all out soon enough πŸ™‚ The Lord is with them, and I know they were called of God. And with God we can do all things.

This week I’ve been studying more of Joseph Smith. And some of his revelations from Doctrine and Covenants, and lectures on Joseph Smith. He did some extraordinary things all through the power of God. The more I learn the more I know that he truly was the prophet of the Restoration and its through that restored priesthood that we have the authority to act in God’s name. I’m grateful for Β the gospel and all i’ve learned and how much I still have yet to learn.

If you haven’t watched “Joseph Smith Prophet of the Restoration” in a while, I want to extend a commitment to all of you to watch it. And pray and receive that spiritual confirmation for yourself that Joseph Smith was a prophet. It doesn’t matter how many times you ask, The Spirit will always testify of Truth.

I love you All! Thanks for all the love and support you’ve given me. Have an Amazing week!

Love,
Sister Pope

Hello Fellow Friends and Humans beings

How are things going for you these days? things are going great here. Well… its long and hard and disappointing but the spirit is strong and I know the Lord is going to help us!:)

We’ve just had most of our investigators dodge us all week, and thats hard because we love them so much! we just want to help them and they don’t want to change. Because change is hard. πŸ˜› But! Happy things have happened this week too! We had the activity day girls make us dinner πŸ™‚ it was so cute, they had appetizers, and they set the table perfectly, πŸ™‚ We were their honored guests. πŸ™‚ It was awesome!

We also got a new Mission president this week President Badger from Holiday Utah. πŸ™‚ And i’m sure he’s sick of Sister Kurt and I already because we’ve called him a few times. haha πŸ™‚ Sis. Kurt is experiences shooting pain in her fingers and its not traveled up her arm and into her back. So we’ve been trying to fix that. And they only thing they could tell us is to take Ibuprofen and wait until after the holiday… because Macomb IL doesn’t have an Urgent Care… Just and ER and a Clinic. And the closest Urgent care is outside the mission. So instead of leaving our mission we are driving all the way to Quincy IL on Friday because there is a member of the ward there who is a doctor and has agreed to see Sister Kurt.

Also Β this week is the beginning of Pageant! I’m going today, tomorrow and Thursday to work and talk to people. We’re usually assigned twice a week but when we have investigators going we can go as many times as we need. So We have Ladonna (Investigator) coming with us on Wednesday with her recent convert daughter. So that will be fuN! πŸ™‚

yesterday was the 4th of July and we went on a Hike! πŸ™‚ It was so fun! and I was wearing the most fashionable outfit lol gotta love wearing other people’s shoes. BUt it was so fun to be out in the trees and hiking up an old stream. there is a special spirit felt in a grove a trees, I can’t help but recite Joseph Smith’s first vision every time. And just imagine what it must have been like. πŸ™‚ it was a good day!

A scripture I’d like to share with you is from 1Nephi 7:17-18. I love it because it shows how God answers prayers. Nephi is praying for something righteous that he can have the strength to break the bonds that are tying him down. and he gets answered but not in the way he wanted, or the way he expected. His bonds were loosen and he was able to get free. That’s sometimes how our trials are. We pray and pray and are expecting an answer in the way we want, not noticing God knows us better and will answer us in the way we need.

I’m grateful to be here serving in Macomb and to be a missionary. πŸ™‚ Thanks for all the love and support you give me! πŸ™‚ Keep Sister Kurt in your prayers though… I don’t want her in pain anymore… πŸ™‚ I love you! Have a great week!

Love,
Sister Pope

Beating the Heat

Hello family and friends!

I hope life is treating you well πŸ™‚ its been super hot here… Yikes… haha But its all good I bought myself a floppy hat today. Since they are approved to wear now I figured it was time to live my dream of owning a floppy hat. Lol πŸ˜‰

But this week was great! we had zone conference and said goodbye to our mission president and we are preparing to get the new one. President Badger comes on July 1st so that will be fun! πŸ™‚ But the crazy part was, the night before zone conference the AP’s called… apparently i’m the only one in the zone who can play piano… AHHH! Even though i’ve gotten better it was still super scary… haha So that goodness for the spirit. Also next monday is July 4th… so I probably won’t be able to email but we’ll see. πŸ™‚ Β We also have exchanges this last week which was good. nothing too exciting to report on there. But there is exciting new about the pageant! Which everyone seems to have questions on! haha πŸ™‚ So here’s what I know.

Twice a week i’ll be working the pageant. Meaning i’ll be walking around switching out the anti with the real stuff. and just testifying about Jesus Christ. and then when we are assigned on a Wednesday or a Friday (the British Pageant) we’ll be singing in the closing number. its like a medley of 4 songs so that will be fun! πŸ™‚ there’s about 40 missionary from the Iowa Des Moines mission that are helping with the Pageant missionaries. About 32 of them are elders and with the 8 remaining sisters 4 are hermanas and are going to be translating, and the other set is the Sister training leaders. So as far as normal english sister missionaries, Sister Kurt and I are the only ones! Crazy! πŸ™‚

We’ve seen several miracles this week! And one is Rob. He is a referral from a member. but he was struggling with the questions of the soul. We finally had an opportunity to meet with him. and he was so great! asking great questions like “What will it take for me to be baptized?” He’s so prepared! He just needs to kick his girlfriend out… haha πŸ™‚ we’ll see what we can do! the struggle is with us the missionaries we either break up couples or they get married. One or the other. anyway!

Its been a great week! things are happening and i’m so happy to help with the Navuoo pageant! πŸ™‚ The Church is true, the book is blue, Satan stinks, and I love you!

I hope you all have a very happy 4th of July next week! πŸ™‚ I love You!!

Love,
Sister Pope
