The Epic of the Corn Dragon

I hope you all had a good week! we sure did. 🙂 We had exchanges this week, I was able to go with Sister Winsor. We just worked really hard, we found 3 new investigators taught 5 other lessons and 1 member present then we were still able to talk to 18 people and invite them to learn more. Wow… There was so much packed into that one little day! I was so tired afterwards and I still had to drive us home! But it was great! Its kinda cool to have 2 experienced missionaries, the amount of work that gets done is awesome! 🙂 I’m very well pleased with us :3

In Other news, I found out I’m related to my companion! Sister Watkins keeps her 4 generation pedigree chart on her wall next to her next and I was looking at it… She has Pope’s In there!! Woah! Then we found out we have 2 common ancestors! Haha The Church makes the world so small! 🙂 it was a good day! 🙂

So I learned of the Corn Dragon this week… haha Its one of those legends or tales you tell children before they go to sleep. But the Corn Dragon has the physical characteristics of a lion but it doesn’t roar, it hisses. And all those times you hear the rustling of the corn, its not the wind… Its a Corn Dragon. They typically eat Penguins… Which is why you don’t see many Penguins wandering about… Those darn Corn Dragons always get them! 😉

And if you’re wondering if I just made that up… welp… I can neither confirm nor deny that allegation 😉 Hehehe

Something else i’ve been pondering is Alma, He was such a good man, why did God wait so long to Translate him… and Well my thoughts are, he wasn’t done being a Dad. He needed to be there for his children and help them in anyway he could. Families are so important! especially in the Lord’s Church. As we are in our families we are able to learn and grow. I am so grateful for my family. I know I was placed in a family where I would be able to learn and grow the most. I am grateful for my Sisters who double as my closest friends. I love my extended family also! Its who we are! and where we came from. I am so very blessed to have such an amazing family. Thanks family! Thanks Mom and Dad! I love you!

And I love you all too! haha:) Friends are the family you pick for yourself right? Well I hope you have a great week! Remember who you are! Remember who you’re not! Read your Scriptures! and Floss your Teeth!

All my Love

Great Grandma Pope!

Hello my favorite people!

So Transfers came and left, and here am I in Marion Iowa! 🙂 We are in the Cedar Rapids 1st ward. Its a big ward! we actually have a real Gym! I haven’t had one of those since I left Utah! wow… I am so happy!! Also this will be my first area where we can party with other missionaries every single P day! woot! You best believe i’m going to beat those Elders at Basketball… 😉 haha they won’t even see it coming. hahaha!
Also! this last transfer! my Missionary posterity doubled! My first daughter (Sister Baransky) is training again! and also her daughter (Sister Bird) is also Training! I am a great grandma!! ;D Yay for missionary family trees! So we took a family picture. 😀 we’re cute! Also speaking of Missionary family trees…. my new Companion is my great niece! Weird haha 🙂 Her name is Sister Watkins and she is from Vernal Utah. She just finished getting trained and now i’m coming in for the breaking 😉 she’s nice. Very smart. I’m going to try to help her get out of her shell a bit. 🙂 We’ll be great together!

This week i’ve been studying the story of Ammon and I had some new insights opened up to me at church. in all the pictures we see of Ammon he is this massively buff dude. But there are no scriptures that i’ve read that make me believe he had that kind of description. I believe he was just a regular human. But what made him different then missionaries in the past was a promise he received from his dad the prophet. He was promised 3 things.
1. Many Shall believe on thier words
2. Eternal Life
3. Delivered out of the hands of the lamanites
So Ammon trusting in the promise his father gave him, had Faith in the Lord that he could accomplish the things he set out to do. That’s why he knew he could stand up to those Robbers, because they couldn’t kill him. He had Faith. It even says that the Robbers did not fear him. Ammon is just so cool. 🙂
I hope you all are having a great week! I hope you know that I love you!
Stay Strong! Have Faith! Floss your Teeth 😉

Transfer Week!

Hello my Favorite people!

Transfers are this week! Crazy Sauce! but i’m 98% sure i’m leaving so I can live out my last 2 transfers in a new area.

This week was full of ups and downs for me too. Dorothy didn’t pass her interview, she’s been drinking coffee. She’s a bus driver and felt she needed it to stay alert. So we’re working towards a different date probably for November. And letting her know of different options available to keep her awake.
But… LEHI WAS BAPTIZED!!!!  😀 Yay! And her Mom and Auntie brought many Non member’s to the baptism! It was awesome! so many good potentials! One of the girls told me she was going to do my hair as I taught her. haha 🙂 I haven’t told her that I probably won’t be here come next week… But that’s okay! 😀
Recently I’ve been pondering the Plan of Salvation. What an amazing plan our Heavenly Father has for us. He knew we would all make mistakes in this life and he knew we’d all fall short of the glory of God. But through Jesus Christ and the divine Atonement we can be made whole. We can be forgiven of our sins. We can give him all our guilt, our shame, our sicknesses, and we can be free. I bore my testimony yesterday on a point in Preach My Gospel.
“We all make mistakes in this life, and these mistakes can lead to feelings of guilt and shame, they can’t be relieved without repentance and forgiveness, but they can be fully healed through the Atonement of Jesus Christ. “
I know that is true. I have felt the redeeming power of the Atonement myself and I know that Jesus Christ can help us overcome anything we may be going through.
I believe in Christ; he stands supreme!
From him I’ll gain my fondest dream;
And while I strive through grief and pain,
His voice is heard: “Ye shall obtain.”
I believe in Christ; so come what may,
With him I’ll stand in that great day
When on this earth he comes again
To rule among the sons of men.
I love this gospel and I love being a missionary. I hope you know that I have you written on my heart and you’re always in my prayers. Phillipians 1:7
All my love,
Sister Pope

Missionary Christmas!!

Hello my favorite people! 😀

This week was such a good week! We were able to watch Conference and feel that special spirit that comes from prayerful preparation. 🙂 I really loved all the Talks on Missionary work! I really loved K Brett Nattress’s talk. It really brought the spirit and brought everything home to me. It reminded me of my own parents and how truly wonderful they are. I am who I am because of my loving parents who taught me the Gospel not just in words but also with all of their actions. They live their testimony of Jesus Christ and I am so lucky and so Grateful to have them. 🙂 Love You!
Anyway! This week was awesome! we were able to be in a Parade! a PMF invited us to help with their parade float by handing out candy. 🙂 it was Awesome! we are slowly softening the hearts of the people of one of our small towns in our area (Rushville) we’ll keep working out there and continue to pray for them. 🙂 Miracles come from prayers!
Also! Dorothy and Lehi are all set for their Baptism this weekend! We’ve already got their Hometeachers assigned and the talks 🙂 It’ll be a great way to end this transfer! 🙂 Transfer Ends on Oct. 13th. Weird, in the next two transfers is Halloween,Thanksgiving, and Christmas! haha 🙂 It should be a good time! 😀
Sister Pickard and I were able to go to the Temple Today! We sure love the temple! 🙂 I am so blessed to be so close to Nauvoo. Something that struck me that a Member of the Macomb ward said is “We are so blessed to be Only an hour away from Nauvoo. We have no excuse for not attending” And I just thought wow… The Faith of this lady, and the faith of this Ward. I Love being a Missionary I am so grateful for this opportunity to be here and to receive so many blessings.
I know this is where the Lord needs me at this time in my life and I am so grateful to be ready and worthy to serve in this Calling. I am so very blessed every single day, the Lord is always Providing miracles. The Church is true! I love you all!

Ps. This is me studying hard 😉 You can tell because of my Preach my Gospel… lol 😀

Conference = Christmas

Hello my favorite people!

🙂 I hope you all had a great week, I sure did! 🙂 This last week was zone conference and Women’s Conference. I love missionaries. I mean I always have, but I really enjoy being around lots of people with the same calling. 🙂 Also its everyone always wants to sit by me because my companion and I always bring snacks. 🙂 Because we are smart. haha 🙂 I like us. Anyway!
Our investigators are progressing really well! We have Dorothy and Lehi who are on date for Oct. 8th. I’m so happy for both of them! We’ve been working really hard to have lessons with them in member’s homes and with different fellow shippers and it appears to be working! Thanks Heavenly Father! 🙂 But if all goes as planned we will have 2 baptisms before the end of this transfer:)
Another thing that’s pretty cool is the Member Missionary lessons that the Macomb missionaries are doing to help the Member’s become better Missionaries. 🙂 This last one we wrote was about recognizing and following the spirit. So I’m going to invite all of you to do it as well.
Pull out your Preach my Gospels! All of you! and Turn to page 100 and read Bullet point #2
It should tell you to make a list of what the lord did and what Nephi/Lehi Did in 1Nephi 16:9-32
After you make your list, think about how this story can apply to you. 🙂 Sister Pickard and I did it and what we noticed is how Nephi went through most of the steps of repentance. He wanted to use the Atonement of Jesus Christ and make things better so the Liahona would work and they could receive guidance again. Nephi also went and asked the Prophet where to do to obtain food. Because the prophet knows the way. He sustained his church leaders even though Lehi was murmuring just a few verses before. Lehi wasn’t perfect and neither is any of us. Repentance is for us all and we have a special opportunity this coming weekend to ask the Apostles and Prophet our questions and receive Revelation for ourselves.
Your commitment is to Write down a question.  (ie. How can I approach people to share the gospel with them? or How can I improve my attitude towards… )Then act upon the answers you receive from Conference!
I know you will receive an answer and it will be completely customized to what The Lord needs from you. 🙂 Because he has given me answers. He always does. Often it comes when I’m pondering my question later. I’m so grateful for a loving Heavenly Father. He will answer our prayers I know it!
I love you all too! I hope you know that! I”m so happy to be a missionary in the Iowa Des Moines mission. Its exactly where I need to be at this time:)  I love the gospel and I love you!

have a wonderful week!
ps. Here are some of my adventures this week ;D

Joys of September!

Hello Family and Friends! 😀

How are you all doing? I hope you are well.

Things are going swell here! we went on exchanges this week! I was with Sister Abegglen again! Woot! #CompsAgain 🙂 It was fun because we already knew how each other teach and we could just jump right into the work. We went back to Missouri. haha its fun knowing that I’ve been to all three states of my mission. 🙂 Also I made some Pina Coladas for us all while we were there. We had a good time. 🙂

Miracles from this week! We moved Dorothy’s baptismal date for Oct. 8th! Yay! that will mean that I will be present for it! 🙂 We also are teaching an 8 year old who’s date is for Oct. 8th as well! Yay! the Lord is providing us with miracles and people to teach! 🙂 Thanks Heavenly Father!

Also… I’m a Genius. Just saying… lol So i’ve come up with a matching game for when we teach children. its awesome! You have to match the picture with the definition. I hand wrote everything then I gave my idea to a member who typed and laminated these little cards. 🙂 Oh they make me so happy! Yay missionary work!

This week I was thinking about the Book of Mormon and how it truly answers any question we may have. So questions like “What’s up with your Mormon bible?” or “how do you even know that God exists?”  have answers found in the book of Mormon. (2Nephi 29:7 and Alma 30:44)

Are there any questions that people have asked you about our faith that you would like answered with the Book Of Mormon? Send me your questions 🙂 i’ll try to find an answer for you. 🙂

Hey I love you all and I’m so happy to be serving in Macomb Illinois! 😀 its a great life and I love being a Missionary. Keep working hard! Read your scriptures! go to Church! Remember I love yoU!

If the Gospel is your top Priority, Somehow it will all work out.

[Editor’s Note: Sorry I’ve been delayed in getting these posts from Brittany in. I’ll do better going forward]

Hello My Favorite People!

How art thou? 🙂 My week has been pretty good we had lots of miracles happening! We found a new investigator Everyday this week! 😀 And 3 of those new investigators were found inside Member’s homes! 😀 Its awesome! We had Dorothy at Church this week, we’re working towards her baptism date of Oct. 15th but I want to move it up to the 8th because if we don’t then I won’t be here for it… But either way, She’s very prepared and so ready for this next step! She just needs to recognized her answer.
This week we also had Zone training meeting and They asked me to play piano but didn’t let me pick the songs… So they told me to just keep the beat and let the piano play itself… LOL Welp! That didn’t work out it was so funny by the end of it everyone was laughing and I decided that I was going to change the last song to one I could actually Play! Silly Elders… Hahaha 🙂
Another Cool thing that happened this week, As many of you know We live with Members here in the Macomb Ward. But you may not know that we Live with The Stake Relief Society President and the 1st Counselor in the Stake Presidency. Anyway! So Sister Pickard and I were doing our weekly planning in the kitchen (because we like to eat all the food while we plan) And We finally finished after 3 hours! But President Rands told me afterwards that he was very impressed with our Weekly planning session and he was even more impressed with Sister Pickard. That she was coming into her own. :’) My little baby is growing up and saving China! 😉 heh heh But I really am so pleased with the progress Sister Pickard is making, she is improving lots every week and I know she will be prepared to encounter all types of challenges that come her way with missionary work. 🙂 Yay! But… She keeps reminding me how old I am… I turn 15 months old next Sunday… Whaaat?! When Did that happen? I swear it was just yesterday I was turning 4 months old…
Its been a really wonderful week! lots of miracles happening and lots of good times!
I’m giving a training on Goals this week, here’s a little taste of what i’ll be talking about 😉
“However, encourage everyone, young and old, to review goals and objectives and strive to exercise greater discipline. Our daily conduct and choices should be consistent with our goals. We need to rise above rationalizations and distractions. It is especially important to make choices consistent with our covenants to serve Jesus Christ in righteousness”
November 2014 Conference. Elder Cook.
Our ultimate goal is Exaltation but we set smaller goals to help us get there. One Goal our mission has is to have 1 baptism per Transfer. Now that takes a lot of faith, think of it like our Ultimate goal for a minute. Then think of our key indicators. They are all goals that will help us to achieve that baptism. As we are talking to more people and opening our mouths prepared people will come. then you can teach them in member homes and invite them to church. They show their commitment that way.
I know that Setting goals is an opportunity for us to excersize our Faith. As we strive to constantly improve we will become better ourselves. More Christlike and we can eventually achieve Exaltation.
I’m not sure that all made any sense, but its where my thoughts were this morning as I was studying for it. 🙂 I hope you all know that I love you and i’m so grateful for all the love and support you give me! Keep working hard and doing the little things, miracles will come! (Alma 37:6)
Love Always,
Sister Brittany Pope
